What decides your interest rate
- Credit score: 750 and above gets the best rates.
- Income and job stability: salaried borrowers at larger employers usually get lower rates.
- Loan type: secured loans (home, car, gold) cost less than unsecured personal loans.
- Loan-to-value: a bigger down payment can lower your rate.
- Benchmark movements: floating-rate loans follow the repo rate and the lender's spread.
RBI raised the repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% on 7 October 2026, according to media reports. Lenders linked to the repo rate are expected to pass this on to floating-rate borrowers over the coming weeks. See our guides for what that means for your EMI, and confirm the live rate with your lender.
